New Flavour Hits Bangsar

Flavours restaurant opened its doors recently in Bangsar. The outlet features an elegantly minimalist setting designed by Creative Director Wull Hashim that sets the pace for its fusion inspired cuisine, which you can actually see being prepared in its theatre kitchen. It seats 60 diners and opens from noon to 10pm daily, except on Mondays.

The herb garden featuring sweet basil, dill, capsicum, sage, curry leaves, rosemary and chili padi in a planter box outside the restaurant’s entrance provides a calming and refreshing welcome to its customers.

Flavours is helmed by the talented Chef Nadri Redzuawan, popularly known as Chef Riz Redz, the 30 year old son of Chef Wan who takes pride in being detailed and imbues his creations with his personal flair. Riz's wife Ana Dahlia and cousins are also involved in running various aspects of the restaurant.

The Asian menu features Nasi Briyani served with either lamb or chicken, and offers an amazing depth of flavour while the rendang, asam pedas and other dishes were prepared according to their family recipes from Malacca.

There are also Malaysian staples like Mee Goreng, Nasi Goreng Kampung, Mee Bandung and Char Kway Teow, of course with Chef Riz’s unique tweak on these.

Wull told us that they have modified the western dishes to suit Asian palates. Sure enough, a firm favorite at the launch was the Buttermilk Pasta with deep-fried calamari. The thick, creamy buttermilk-garlic sauce was both rich and refined, while the curry leaves and chilli padi jostled each other in a playground of flavours that runs riot on your tongue.

The Amuse Bouche, French for "mouth amuser" is a tidbit served as a free extra to keep you happy while you are waiting for your first course to come. It gives you an idea of the chef's approach to cooking and the restaurant's attention to your appetite. Riz described his little creations as a palate pleaser with an Asian twist.

The hearty Burgers on the other hand offered layers of premium beef patties, aged cheddar, pickles and an assortment of delightfully crunchy greens that made for a satisfying meal.

Flavours has a lot going for it, and the dedicated team behind it will spare no effort to make your dining experience a delight.
